Iris Painting In Miniature – New Watercolor

This is one of my latest paintings, “Rhapsody – Iris”.  It is approx 6×6 watercolor on board painted in miniature.  I love the irises growing in my garden and really enjoy being able to paint the splash of color in my work.  My studio overlooks the gardens, so it gives a lot of floral inspiration in the spring and summer months.

    Hey Rebecca
this is stunning and so life like. I will have to plant some next Autmun as this is my favourite flower. So do you sell your work?

  2. Hi Rebecca….obviously you sell your work. How would I go about obtaining a small print of your work? The Iris turned out beautiful. How do you get such detail in such a small area?

  3. Hello Rebecca, I admire anybody that can paint or draw, and I admire your talent and work. This painting reminds me of my red rose photo in my etsy shop. I think anybody can take a picture, but not everybody can paint.

    Hi everyone,

@Claire – Thanks so much!! Yes, I do. …sent you an email… I keep thinking that I should plant some more. I think mine would grow a little better if it wasn’t quite so cold where I live.. :) I have some more old fashioned and wild irises, but I really love the frilly ones…

@Scott – Hi. Thanks, I’m glad you like it! I do a lot of really fine hatching to build it up to the point of being finished (…all of that ‘in miniature’ technique..). You have to use pretty fresh brushes to get the fine details to turn out right.

Just send me an email if you’d like a print. I believe this one will be on board and sold framed. (I love the ones on board – they have the same appearance as the original paintings…) If I recall, they are under $100….but I can check to be sure…

@Steve – Thank you! …that’s nice of you. :) I think that anyone can paint, but that it takes a person that is really committed to it. Talent for it certainly helps, but the drive to do it really makes it happen. :) (You have some stunning photography, BTW…some of those on your Etsy reminded me of some paintings that I’d like to paint… :) )
