This
painting was requested by a gallery for his collectors. He also
requested a matching piece of a ruffed grouse which is already in
progress and will be posted soon. I began by roughing in the
patterns of the bird, which is fairly complex in both a woodcock and
the ruffed grouse. Next I
placed a bit of habitat in the painting. These were brought into
the studio so they could be painted from "life". I like to do
this whenever because I can get a true feeling for the subtle details,
colors, and values of the subject. It's too bad the critters
don't hold still for me! :)
Adding
more habitat and color to bring out more depth and richness to the
painting, I am getting closer to the finish.
Here is
the beginning of a new painting - the ruffed grouse.
