Artists For Conservation (AFC)

At the end of 2007, my Mom, Karen, sister, Bonnie, and I returned to the Artists For Conservation, an association/society of artists that is dedicated to conservation of nature.   The profile for my membership on the AFC foundation’s website has just gone "live", with my family’s soon to follow. :D

    Ms. Latham,
I am in my final quarter of my bachelors degree (25 years in the making). I have created a self-study class called “The Art of Conservation”, which focuses on Environmental awareness, conservation and wildlife art.

I wanted to include a paper about women involved in early conservation and natural art. The challenge is finding them. There is plenty of information on male artists including the Hudson River School all the way to the artistic photography of Ansel Adams. Do you know of any women who were active artists in environmental or wildlife art (prefer American) from the 18th, 19th and 20th century?

Also researching how we as artists can get involved in supporting conservation and sustainable living.

Your site inspired the first foundation ideas for this class. I hope later to develop a local community class to help others find a voice in creating public awareness.

Thank you for any assistance you can provide.

    Hi Christine,

I am so honored. Thank you.

The only women artists that I can think of would be Nancy Howe who was the first woman to win the Federal Duck Stamp and Sherrie Russel Melaine who has also (as well as other state stamps).

    Best,

    Rebecca
