I’ve been going through reference to plan out some new paintings. I will be starting some of them in the next few weeks for some of my galleries (such as Galleries West’s "Little Jewels Miniatures Show" in Jackson Hole). I’ll be posting images of them as soon as I get going on them.
Floral Miniature Painting for Miller Galleries
Here is the first miniature painting I started for Miller Galleries show (as posted on the 16th). It’s a floral of a potted geranium. The plant in it’s pot is just under 3" high. This piece is nearly finished also. :)
Miniature Painting for Miller Gallery Exhibition
Here is the color painting of the stillife (the sketch for this piece is in the previous post). It is nearly finished right now. It has progressed fairly quickly. :)
Miniature Stillife for Exhibition
I just started working on this miniature stillife today — the inital sketch for the painting is posted left. It is one of the pieces I am planning to send to Miller Galleries for their miniatures show.
New Miniature for Exhibition
I just started a new miniature piece this afternoon — one of the pieces I will be sending to Miller Galleries for their miniatures show. The painting is about 3×4 (inches). I didn’t snap a photo of the sketch earlier, so I’ll be posting a color phase image of it shortly. :)
Moose Sculpture – Precast Bronze
Here is the photograph of the precast bronze sculpture I mentioned earlier (detail of the precast). I began covering the armature with clay this morning — most of the moose is now coated.
Starting New Paintings – Miniature Paintings
I am starting a few miniature paintings today — at least I am gathering some reference for them (I may start painting them tomorrow). These will be the 1/6th scale (and 25 square inches or smaller) traditional miniatures. I am painting these by request of Miller Galleries in Cincinnati, Ohio for their annual miniatures show for the holidays. My family and I were invited to represent this traditional miniature scale of works — this is the first year the gallery will be showing this type of painting in their show.
Completed Painting — Barred Owl Portrait
I completed my Barred Owl miniature/small works piece today. Here is a photo of the finished painting:
Finishing Owl Painting
Here is a photo of my progress on my miniature painting. I am almost finished.
Sculpture Begins
My new sculpture tools arrived today — it feels like Christmas opening all of the packages.
I started on the new bronze with the armature for the animal and the habitat surrounding it. I am approaching it as a three dimensional painting — I think it will work out well that way. I will post photographs of the new bronze (precast) a little later, as it looks like a recycled sculpture project at the moment. :)
