Hummingbird Minaiture Painting

I gave myself a little treat today - I started a new painting, though it is one of those pieces that I have to do. Getting started on a new piece is always refreshing. I think it's because there are so many things that can be done with a new painting. It fills your mind with all of the creative ideas and possibilities. This is a ruby throated hummingbird with wild columbine - the design sketch for the new miniature watercolor.

  1. Rebecca, I am amazed at the detail and skill evident in your art! Your pieces are very beautiful! I am also an artist and would like to know where you are selling. But my big question is — are these all transparent watercolor? If so, that is truly amazing!

    Keep those brushes wet!

    Hi Patty,

    Thanks! :D [blushing]

I’m glad you like what you see.

These are painted in opaque and transparent watercolor. It’s a Flemish style/technique of painting – I studied with an artist from Belgium who paints in a similar way. I’ve worked in a lot of different mediums, but just really like this for some reason. I sometimes switch to something else, medium wise, when I want to make things a little interesting. :D

I have about 6 galleries that sell my originals in Maryland, New Jersey, Montana, Wyoming, Oregon, and Ohio. I also do as many shows that I can squeeze in – sometimes those are with galleries and sometimes art societies.

    rebecca,
your work is beautiful. i love all the lines and attention to detail, especially in your sketches. i love that you can see the process you went through to do the drawing. this is a bit random, but i have been researching pictures of hummingbirds and flowers and things like that for a tattoo i am getting on my back. i am really wanting to take this sketch into the artist and have him use it for inspiration. i didn’t know if there was anywhere that sold prints of this or what. please let me know. also, i would be more then happy to send you a picture of it when it’s finished. thanks alot:) keep up the beautiful work.
