Two Little Bobcats

Busy working on stacks of paintings as always.. but doing my best to stay in touch with everyone here, on Facebook, and scattered other locations on the web… :)

This is a close-up photo of a painting that’s getting pretty close to completion.  Two bobcat kittens off exploring.  …just a few adjustments, etc.  The piece will finish as a 10″x10″, watercolor on board.  The painting will debut at an invitational gallery exhibit later this year.

I haven’t painted a lot of bobcats until recently…but I am really enjoying the patterns of the fur, textures, and of course their engaging expressions.  …though, painting young animals always seems to be a treat to paint.

Daydream Greeting

I was very pleased to hear that my painting, Daydream, will be included in a line of notecards of my work that will be available across the US.  (My Mom, Karen, and Sister, Bonnie have their art work included in the line of cards as well.)  This painting has also been reproduced as an 11x14in paint-by-number and is available through most arts & crafts retailers.

This was first announced on Rebecca’s Page on Facebook, so apologies for being redundant if you’ve already seen it there .

Collection for the Clymer Museum of Art

I am very pleased to have been invited to show in the Clymer Museum of Art’s Miniature show, a part of the ‘Annual Clymer Spectacular’ that will be on display November 5th to January 2nd 2011 in Ellensburg, Washington.  I will be showing a variety of subjects for the exhibit… A Native American portrait of a young lady as she danced in a Powwow titled “Wrapped in Red”, and a wildlife portrait “Mindful – Timberwolf” — both are watercolor on board, 4×6, ©Rebecca Latham.

New Works Show for the Breast Cancer Foundation

I am delighted to be a part of The Snowgoose Gallery’s Exhibition of New Work by Gallery Artists that has been on display through the month of October.  I just put the finishing touches on this new work, “Pause, Cougar Kitten” that will be arriving for their closing reception festivities.

As a part of the exhibition, the gallery is holding an art raffle at their closing reception for the show Saturday, October 30, from 6 – 8 PM.  The money raised going to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.  Please contact them directly for information about obtaining tickets.

Welcoming Autumn

It’s hard to believe that it’s mid October already!  …in celebration of Autumn, this is one of my newer works that has not yet been posted…

“Autumn Softness – Bull Moose”, 8×10, watercolor on board – A moody Fall painting of one of the many moose that reside near Jackson Hole, Wyoming.  This pieces was a part of our featured show this past September during the Jackson Fall Arts Festival and is currently available and on display at the Raindance Gallery on Center St. in Jackson.

Like all of my artwork, this piece will be available in limited edition canvas giclee as well, reproduced the same size as the original painting.  Please drop a note for more information.

Canada Geese Painting on the USFWS National Tour

My painting of a pair of Canada Geese on calm water tied for 5th place in the USFWS 2011 Federal Duck Stamp competition held at the David Brower Center in Berkley, California last week.

The painting will be a part of the National tour around the country in 2010-2011 with stops including the Easton Waterfowl Festival in Maryland, San Bernadino County Museum in California, Core Sound Waterfowl Museum on the North Carolina coast, and others.  Please see the Events page for a complete list of venues (more being added shortly for 2011).

I have been involved in the Federal program since I was eligible and began entering the Junior Duck Stamp competition (for student artists) in 1996.  In 1998, my work was chosen as the National runner-up which brought my family and I to Washington, DC for ceremonies and tours.  Additionally, my sister’s work was chosen as the national winner in 2000 and various trips for events as well.

“Federal Duck Stamps are a vital tool for wetland conservation. Ninety-eight cents out of every dollar generated by the sales of Federal Duck Stamps goes directly to purchase or lease wetland habitat for protection in the National Wildlife Refuge System. Understandably, the Federal Duck Stamp Program has been called one of the most successful conservation programs ever initiated and is a highly effective way to conserve America’s natural resources.”  Read more about the US Federal Duck Stamp Program on the Government website: http://www.fws.gov/duckstamps/

October 15th I was in attendance for the Artist Reception at Kelley Galleries in Woodbury, MN.  If you happened to miss it, the exhibit is still on display through the 24th.  This is my first year of being a part of their event.  Many thanks to Don Kelley and Kyle Shanahan for putting on the beautiful show.  Kelley Galleries in Woodbury, MN will be representing a select collection of our original work in the future as well.

Also, if you happen to be in the area Saturday, November 13th, the Kelley Galleries’ Hudson gallery will be hosting their annual Fall event where I and other select gallery artists will be painting new works in the gallery for their fine art auction at the end of the evening.  …an event not to be missed!

A Busy Art-Filled Summer

A very busy summer!  This year has been amazing… Time in the studio has been more productive than in any previous years, I have been very blessed to be represented by so many quality galleries around the country, and I have had the invitations and available work to be a part of more exhibitions as well.  And so… a long-overdue update…  (If you aren’t already connected on Facebook, you can check out Rebecca’s Facebook Page for additional updates and conversation!)

“Refugees – Orangutans” was selected for the Society of Animal Artists 50th Anniversary exhibition in San Diego, California this Sept and is on exhibit at the San Diego Museum of Natural History.  It will also be a part of the Encore exhibition being hosted by the Wildlife Experience Museum in Denver November 20, 2010 – February 21, 2011.

In addition to those two beautiful venues, I was delighted that the SAA tour director, David J Wagner, selected the work to continue on the National tour to the Dunnegan Gallery of Art March 13 – April 10, 2011 in Bolivar, MO and the Sam Noble Oklahoma Museum of Natural History April 30 – September 5, 2011 on the campus of the University of Oklahoma, Norman, OK.  Several of my artist-friends attending the Society’s events in California also mentioned that the “Refugees” was one of two pieces to be purchased at the opening.

In September, my family and I attended our back-to-back Family shows in MT and WY.  Many thanks to Stacey and Janene at the Moose Horn Gallery in Livingston, Montana (pictured above during the opening) for putting on a beautiful show and the inspirational spot along the Yellowstone River.

Our week long show at the Raindance Gallery in Jackson Hole Wyoming (Our first Featured show held in conjunction with the Jackson Fall Arts Festival) was the largest collection of paintings shown in one exhibit to date – nearly 60.  We also had the opportunity to spend our mornings tracking moose and spotting other wildlife as well as visiting the newly formed Teton Raptor Center and a hike into the Black Canyon wilderness. (Bonnie Latham seated in front of one wall of the Raindance Gallery display)

Early October marked the opening of our 3rd Featured show for the year with an exhibition at Kelley Galleries in Hudson, Wisconsin (The event is still on show if you are in the area).

Their Woodbury, Minnesota gallery location is hosting their annual Miniature Art Show on display October 11th-24th as well (Opening reception is the 15th 5-7pm)  Many thanks to Barb from Hudson (pictured) and Kyle from the Woodbury Gallery for putting on these beautiful events!

In Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, The Snowgoose Gallery is hosting a The Breast Cancer Research Foundation benefit show of New Works by gallery artists going on now through the end of the month.  (I am just putting the finishing touches on a brand new piece for their Closing Reception events)

Looking forward to late Autumn and early Winter…. I am preparing for 6 Holiday exhibitions of new work in MA, TX, MT, WY, CT, and WA, as well as supplying new pieces for galleries needing fresh work.  Many new things in the works as well!  Thanks again to all of you for your support of my work and wildlife and looking forward to hearing from you!
