Elk Miniature Watercolor Painting – Progress

For the most part, this piece was painted yesterday with a few touch ups this morning. :D I have a few minor things to adjust on it, but this bull elk miniature is pretty much completed.

Snowy Egret Miniature Painting- Color Progress

This is how my Snowy Egret painting is looking right now. The painting is very subtle and has a lot of very soft color tones in it - unfortunately the richness of the color in the habitat and some of the accents in the egret are not showing up well in this scan. When I did the research and study for this this painting, the egret had soft overcast lighting, so the look of the painting is a little different than most of the pieces that I paint. It is still in progress. Here's the sketch for this piece.

Turtle Miniature Watercolor Painting

This is a new painting that I'm working on. 13 turtles on a log and reflections of them in the water. This piece is pretty intricate, but I thought that I should challenge myself. ;) I saw these turtles in Oklahoma. They all seemed to be competing for space on the log to sun themselves in the early afternoon sunlight - as you can see, some of them did not get the prime locations. I think that the title for this painting will be

Large Cougar Watercolor Painting

I was in an accident a while back, some of my blog visitors may have heard, it was an incident with an overly playful cougar about a year ago.  The event slowed me down a bit with my injuries and pulled muscles, but everything turned out fine (thankfully).  …am very cautious around cougars now. ;)

This is a painting in progress of the cougar that attacked me – the watercolor painting is 24×36.  Rebecca Latham | Wildlife Artist

Elk Miniature Watercolor

Here is another new piece that I am working on, a miniature watercolor of an elk - should have finished soon. You can see that I have a light wash underpainting and have started to work in the darks of the piece.
